Two categories reach for hydroxyapatite for the same underlying reason: the product is likely to be swallowed. A toddler cannot reliably spit, and a dog certainly cannot. That changes which actives a formulator is comfortable with, and it is why HAp — the mineral that enamel is largely made of — keeps appearing in both briefs.

Children's oral care

The formulator's problem is the swallowing fraction. That is a formulation and regulatory decision that belongs to you and your market's authority, not to an ingredient supplier, and we will not offer an opinion dressed up as guidance. What we can say is what the ingredient is: a fine hydroxyapatite composite, dosed at 0.5–2%, free of triclosan and diethylene glycol, with the particle size specified.

Pet oral care

Pet dental products are swallowed in full, which is why the category leans toward mineral and enzymatic actives rather than anything requiring expectoration. Note the practical difference from human paste: flavour system, foaming and abrasivity expectations are all different, and a human formulation transferred unchanged into a pet product usually fails on palatability before anything else.

Is hydroxyapatite safe if swallowed?

Safety assessment for your finished formulation, at your inclusion level, in your market, is your responsibility as the product owner. We supply the raw material and its specification; we are not in a position to make a safety determination for a product we have not formulated.

Can I use the same formula for children and pets?

Technically the active dosing is similar, but flavour, foaming and abrasivity expectations differ substantially, and palatability is usually where a transferred human formula fails in the pet category.

Do you have clinical studies?

No. We have the manufacturer's technical documentation and the patent grants. We do not have, and therefore do not publish, clinical trial data on finished products.

What is the zinc oxide doing in an oral care powder?

It contributes to the plaque and oral-odour side of the formulation alongside HAp's mineral role.
