Nanocellulose-based biodegradable high-barrier films and paper coatings — fully bio-based, PFAS-free and plastic-free. High oxygen barrier, water and 100% UVB protection, FDA food-contact, and degradation in soil. A drop-in replacement for PE lamination and fluorochemical greaseproof paper.
Oxygen barrier film · Multifunctional barrier film · Biomass coating liquid · In partnership with SCUT Plant Fiber Material Science Research Center
Regulation — not just preference — is driving the switch. Conventional barrier packaging relies on plastics (PE/EVOH) or fluorochemical (PFAS) coatings. Both are now restricted, and most "green" alternatives can't match the barrier.
Tested performance of the nanocellulose-based barrier materials. Full test reports, food-contact documentation and compostability certification available / in progress under NDA.
| Property | Conventional plastic / PFAS | ZnoNova Biopack |
|---|---|---|
| Oxygen barrier | High (EVOH/plastic) | High — O₂ <0.2 cm³·m⁻²·day⁻¹ |
| Water-vapour barrier | High | <0.5 g·m⁻²·day⁻¹ |
| UV (UVB) barrier | Usually none | 100% UVB block |
| Grease / oil resistance | PFAS-based | PFAS-free coating |
| Biodegradable / compostable | No (plastic) / No | Fully bio-based, soil-degradable |
| Food contact | Yes | FDA food-contact |
Figures are tested values for the nanocellulose materials under specified conditions; confirm against the CoA and certification for your application.
Films for finished packaging, and a coating liquid to upgrade ordinary paper.
High oxygen-barrier (O₂ <0.2), flexible (9,000+ folds), bio-based and FDA food-contact.
Triple barrier — oxygen, water and 100% UVB — tensile >200 MPa, soil-degradable in ~21 days.
Coats ordinary paper to replace PE lamination & PFAS greaseproof — grease, oil & water resistant, recyclable, food-contact.
Many "high-barrier" sustainable films are composites that still contain plastic, so they fail compostability and PFAS-free requirements. Ours are built to pass them.
Leading with the regulation-driven, high-value switches.
PFAS-free, PE-free grease-resistant paper for burgers, baking, takeaway — built for the US PFAS bans.
Oxygen + UV barrier keeps coffee, dried fruit, nuts and snacks fresh — compostable, premium.
Oxygen-barrier film for vegetables, cooked food and prepared meals prone to oxidation.
100% UVB block plus oxygen/water barrier for bottle sealing and light-sensitive products.
The materials are fully bio-based (nanocellulose + biomass), with tested soil degradation around 21 days. Unlike many "high-barrier" composite films that still contain a plastic layer, ours are designed to be plastic-free and compostable. Compostability certification (EN13432 / OK Compost) is available / in progress — ask us for the current status and reports.
Yes — the biomass coating liquid provides grease, oil and water resistance without fluorochemicals (PFAS), making it a drop-in replacement for fluorochemical greaseproof paper now banned in several US states. PFAS-free declaration and test data available under NDA.
Tested oxygen barrier is O₂ <0.2 cm³·m⁻²·day⁻¹, water-vapour <0.5 g·m⁻²·day⁻¹, and 100% UVB block, with tensile strength >200 MPa for the multifunctional film. This is high barrier for a fully biodegradable material — most compostable films can't match it.
It is supplied to paper mills and converters and applied to ordinary paper on existing coating lines, replacing PE extrusion lamination or PFAS greaseproof treatment. We provide coating guidance. Ready-coated paper can also be arranged.
The technology was developed with the Plant Fiber Material Science Research Center at South China University of Technology (SCUT). ZnoNova is the overseas commercialization partner — samples, test data and supply available to qualified partners.
